My Campaign
I have many goals for next year, and since one of my goals is to be a voice for the students if you have a concern that is not listed here, please contact me.
All Student Priority
I want to be a voice for the whole campus. I want to make sure that all students become a priority on this campus. Over the last month I heard many statements with a main focus on the new freshman coming in. We have always been an upper-level university. We were founded on transfer and graduate students, and I do not want to see them overlooked while UIS is expanding
3, its a magic number
One of my other goals for next year is to not only ensure a recycling program, but to expand recycling on this campus. Using the three R's; reduce, reuse, recycle; I would like to see a task formed to make UIS more eco-friendly. I would also like to see a year long initiative that would involve gathering items that are no longer in use by students and seeing how they can be reused by the surrounding community.
A United Student Body
My second goal is to unite the student campus in order to have a stronger voice. The administration just raised out tuition 20%+. They have seen no repercussion for not only raising the tuition by this substantial amount, but not informing any students of this raise before Thursday. If the try to raise the tuition enormously next year I would like the administration to expect a large hurdle to mount in the form of student concern.
Student Involvement In Recruitment
I have recently found out that the commercial that is airing on television had no student input when it was created. This is not acceptable. I want to work on ensuring that there are students in all projects that will be created to advertise our campus.
Due Process for All Students
Many other students have vowed to work on a Student Bill of Rights. While this is being written I would like to work on a student judicial system that would allow students due process by their peers. While I respect the system that has been in place, this is a changing campus and I believe this is one of the area that is ready to be changed.
SAC & ICCB
Having chaired the SAC committee for the last year, and worked with ICCB through other organizations I am extremely familiar with both organizations. Both chairs take on a lot when they agree to take over these entities. As Vice President I will serve as a guide and helping hand for both these organizations. I believe the Vice President needs to do more than just trying to hold these chairs accountable; I believe the VP needs to take an active role where it is needed. As Vice President it will be one of my goals to, with the help of the Sgt. at Arms, create bylaws to help the SAC chair run the committee smoother.
